See which question makes applicants drop off

Jobmaps shows for each listing how many applicants answer every initial question, and warns when one question loses many.

At a glance

  • Each listing's statistics now show how many applicants answer every initial question

  • If a question loses many applicants, Jobmaps marks it in red and the listings page shows a red exclamation mark

  • One click leads straight to the questions to adjust them

Not everyone who starts an application sends it. Often a single question is to blame because it asks too much or is unclear. Jobmaps now shows where applicants leave.

What does the "Where applicants drop out" section show?

The "Where applicants drop out" section in the Jobmaps listing statistics shows the path through the application as bars: how many applicants started, how many answered each initial question and how many sent the application. This makes it visible whether applicants stay on steadily or leave at one particular question.

The statistics open with a click on a listing's chart in the listings page. Hovering over a bar shows the exact numbers, for example "12 of 20". Answers per question are recorded since late October 2026; older numbers are not available.

When does Jobmaps warn about a question?

Jobmaps marks a question in red when at least 25 percent of applicants drop off at that point and at least 20 people have seen the question. It then reads, for example, "40 % drop out here", next to an Edit questions link. In the listings page, the listing's chart carries a red exclamation mark. Hovering over it shows which question is affected.

The mark in the listings page covers the last 30 days. With small numbers, Jobmaps does not raise an alarm, so single drop-offs do not look like a pattern.

What helps when a question loses many applicants?

It often helps to word the question more simply, to offer choices instead of free text, or to leave it out if it is not needed for the first selection. Anything a position strictly requires can be marked as a minimum requirement. Where applicants come from is shown further up in the same statistics (learn more).
