What employers look for
HR positions exist in practically every industry – from industry and retail to hospitals and homes, and up to public administration. The range spans HR assistance and personnel administration through HR professionals and generalists to recruiting and HR consulting. Content-wise it almost always covers the entire employee lifecycle: recruiting, contracts and employment references, wages and absences, advising managers and employees.
The classic path is via vocational training with HR further education: the Certificate in Personal Assistance for assistant roles, the federal professional title for specialized and advisory services. In addition, knowledge of social security and labor law, as well as routine use of HR systems such as SAP, SuccessFactors, or Abacus, are in demand.
Part-time workloads are common. Very good German is consistently expected; French or English are added for nationally active companies.
