What employers look for
Internship positions exist across all sectors: in social facilities and children's homes, in marketing and communications, in HR, in engineering firms, in production and in administration. There are also working student positions that can be pursued alongside studies.
Depending on the field, the internship serves a different purpose: in the social sector it is often a prerequisite for training at a higher technical college (HF) or university of applied sciences (FH); in marketing and communications it is the usual entry into the profession; in technical occupations it is part of the studies. The positions are usually fixed-term—typically between three and twelve months—and the pay varies greatly by industry.
What is required above all is initiative and an appropriate educational background. Good German language skills are standard; some internships in international teams are conducted in English.
