What employers look for
School and class aides support teachers from kindergarten to secondary level—mostly at public schools in towns and cantons, as well as private and international schools. The work ranges from helping in the whole class to accompanying a single child with special needs through the school day, often advertised as ISR or 1:1 support.
A teaching diploma is not required. What is needed is experience with children, reliability, and close collaboration with the homeroom teacher: taking over exercise sequences, supervising midday meals, helping with homework—depending on need. The hours are almost always part-time, follow the school calendar, and are often fixed-term or paid by the hour, which makes the positions popular with students, parents, and career changers.
Daily contact with children makes good German in German-speaking Switzerland a prerequisite. In the Romandy, there are the same roles, usually under the title "assistant socio-éducatif."
