Reception desks can be found at the company reception of SMEs, banks and administrations, at hotel reception, information desk and the switchboard of hospitals, as well as with facilities service providers who run receptions for their clients. The core is similar everywhere: greeting guests, operating the switchboard, processing mail and e-mail, organizing meeting rooms, plus general administration.

Usually a commercial/basic training or training in hospitality is required, along with experience in a similar role, proficient use of MS Office, and a neat, friendly demeanor – one is the face of the house.

Proof of proficient German is a prerequisite; English is often required, French is a plus. At the company reception, office hours are generally observed, often part-time. In hotels and hospitals, shifts, weekends, and early or late fringe hours are part of the job.
