What employers look for
Psychology positions focus on psychiatric clinics and their outpatient departments, on hospitals, school psychological services, and outpatient psychotherapy providers. The work includes diagnostics and clarifications, psychotherapeutic treatment in individual and group settings, as well as counseling—with adults or in child and adolescent psychiatry.
The basis is a master's degree in psychology. For psychotherapy, the additional training to become a federally recognized psychotherapist is required—many clinics are recognized training centers and specifically advertise positions for psychologists in training, including supervision. Clinical prior experience is expected almost everywhere.
Part-time roles are the norm. Very good German is essential for therapeutic work; in the French-speaking part of Switzerland (Romandy) and in Ticino, French or Italian accordingly.
