Internship in Battery Technology & Prototyping Support

📍 Baden-Daettwil, Aargau, Switzerland

Role and responsibilities

As an intern, you will contribute to advanced research projects in battery technology and advanced manufacturing. Your responsibilities will include: Operate and support polymer 3D printing processes using state‑of‑the‑art industrial-grade equipment for prototyping and functional components. Assist in the design, development, and assembly of battery test systems. This includes practical work such as designing innovative cell holders, building fixtures, and supporting laser-welding jig development. Support test maintenance, launch activities, and experimental campaigns. Collect, process, and analyze test data to contribute to research outcomes. Assist in the preparation of battery safety tests, including setup and integration of sensing and measurement equipment. Contribute to ongoing research activities focused on next-generation battery technologies, including experimental validation and documentation.

At ABB, we envision integration of Energy Storage systems for reliable and sustainable electrical mobility applications as well as for the power grids of the future. To realize this vision, we are developing advanced technological solutions that are based on various battery cell chemistries.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Master`s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field

  • Interest in battery energy storage & state of the art technologies

  • Experience with CAD and additive manufacturing is required. Already maturated practical experience in a lab setting and working knowledge of Python is preferred

  • Proficiency in English

  • Willingness to learn and explore new research topics

  • Committed to learning and taking initiative

  • Ability to think conceptually and express ideas clearly and convincingly

  • Availability for six months (start and end dates are open for discussion)
