Postdoctoral Researcher in Evolutionary Phonological Typology

Role and responsibilities

The postdoc will lead and develop a series of studies using computational methodologies (e.g., phylogenetic methods) to investigate the forces involved in the stability and change of sound patterns within lexical items. This is an 80% FTE position, which includes 20% teaching. The positions are offered as a one-year contract, with a potential extension by agreement to up to four years total.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong data science skills, including expertise and comfort with using scripting languages to carry out automated data curation

  • Familiarity with probabilistic programming languages (e.g., Stan)

  • A strong background in phonology and/or phonetics is desirable

  • Experience with phylogenetic modeling is a plus

  • Excellent communication and teamwork are essential

  • Good oral and written communication in English is required
