PhD Position in Numerical Modelling of Debris Flows

Role and responsibilities

You will develop a new coupled solid/ fluid mechanics-based numerical model to simulate the motion of debris flows. You will incorporate novel field data currently being collected at numerous locations around the world to validate the new numerical model. You will combine the numerical model results with field data to further our understanding of the motion of debris flows.

Qualifications and Skills

  • MSc in Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or related fields

  • Strong background in numerical modelling

  • Interest in natural hazards

  • Motivation, creativity, independence, and ability to work in a team

  • Excellent English communication skills
