Role and responsibilities

Contribute to the smooth operation, maintenance, and continuous evolution of the GitLab service. Identify, investigate and implement possible improvements and new functionality for the benefit of the user community. Collaborate closely with development teams, providing support to integrate their applications with CI/CD pipelines, actively listening to their needs, troubleshooting issues, and providing clear, expert guidance on GitLab best practices to ensure a great user experience. Provide modern AI coding tools to the CERN developers' community, support their users, and follow the evolution of technology and products in this exciting domain.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with version control systems and CI/CD workflows.

  • Experience with container deployment and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes / OpenShift.

  • Experience with AI coding tools as a user (including agentic usage).

  • Experience with management of such solutions is a plus.

  • Previous experience with observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana) is a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive mindset to identify challenges and drive innovative solutions.

  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

  • Strong commitment to user satisfaction, actively seeking feedback and collaborating with users to continuously improve services.

  • Container orchestration tools (Kubernetes, OpenShift etc.).

  • Git, CI/CD tools, test and deployment automation.

  • Knowledge of SQL/PostgreSQL.

  • Programming in Ruby and/or Ruby on Rails, Python, or GoLang.

  • Linux system administration, Bash scripting.

  • Profiling and metrics analysis.

  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.

  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software or Computer Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.

  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.

  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
