Commissioning Engineer

Role and responsibilities
Carry out testing and commissioning of substation automation systems at customer sites in Switzerland and abroad, while actively supporting the Service Management team. Execute commissioning activities safely, following all Hitachi Energy and customer safety standards; report hazards and near misses to support continuous improvement. Perform commissioning tasks according to defined process descriptions and checklists; coordinate closely with engineering and project management teams. Identify, track, and resolve open points, ensuring customer sign‑off before site demobilization. Report site progress and planning updates; ensure efficient use of commissioning tools and test equipment. Provide marked‑up drawings to engineering for preparing as‑built documentation and final submissions. Support planning and implementation of commissioning activities. Implement design changes and provide mark‑ups for as‑built project documentation. Coordinate site activities required to finalize customer acceptance certification.

Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
4+ years of experience as a commissioning engineer for automation systems and related products
Strong knowledge of substation SCADA/RTU systems, HMI principles, and Hitachi Energy products; understanding of protection philosophies
Basic knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC 61850, LON, IEC 101–104, DNP; ability to read schematic drawings and identify discrepancies; strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills
Familiarity with engineering toolchains typical for SAS/SCADA (IET600, PCM600, MicroSCADA); willingness to learn across SCADA, RTU, networking, and cybersecurity topics
Strong communication and presentation skills
Proficiency in spoken and written English, German is preferred
