Senior Compliance Officer - Anti-Money Laundering

Role and responsibilities

As the AML Senior Compliance Officer you will oversee and maintain the AML Framework. You will:

Be responsible for the Group AML Policy which defines the AML framework and requirements. Monitor and interpret global AML regulatory developments and translate them into clear, actionable guidance for business units across jurisdictions. Act as a subject matter expert on AML topics, providing risk-based advice on complex and high-risk cases, including unusual transaction patterns, high-risk customers, and cross-border structures. Review and challenge AML risk assessments and customer risk ratings, ensuring consistency, robustness, and alignment with the Group AML framework. Support and advise on escalated AML cases, including suspicious activity, potential financial crime concerns, and high-risk client relationships. Oversee the design and effectiveness of AML controls, including transaction monitoring, KYC/CDD standards, and enhanced due diligence frameworks. Define and maintain Group AML policies, standards, and methodologies, ensuring they remain aligned with regulatory expectations and best practices. Support the Assurance Team by performing second-line oversight and independent challenge of first-line AML processes, including onboarding, periodic reviews, and ongoing monitoring. Coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and inspections, including preparation of materials and engagement with regulators where required. Drive AML risk assessments and thematic reviews, identifying emerging risks, control gaps, and areas requiring remediation across business units. Deliver training, awareness, and advisory support to local compliance teams and business stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding and implementation of AML requirements globally. Support the implementation of the AML Customer Risk Rating (CRR) and Transaction Monitoring (TM) tool within the Group.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experiences in Compliance with a focus on Financial Crime and AML, including demonstrable hands-on responsibility for the design, implementation and oversight of AML frameworks and controls.

  • Strong background in relevant laws & regulations (EU, Swiss) as well as industry standards with proven experience in applying AML requirements across multiple jurisdictions (e.g. EU, UK, US, Swiss) in practice.

  • Proven track record in managing core AML topics customer risk rating, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, investigations, and advisory support to the business, ideally within an international financial services or insurance group.

  • Strong analytical skills with economics/finance/business administration/law and background, preferably with a Master’s degree in one of these fields

  • Ability to deliver effective management information and reporting, including AML KPIs, risk indicators, and regulatory reporting (e.g. SAR/STR metrics, monitoring effectiveness).

  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, in particular credibility and capability to work closely with senior management as well as regulators, FIUs and external auditors where required.

  • Ability to cope efficiently with multi-task situations and to work independently, including in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.

  • Demonstrated learning agility, intellectual curiosity and openness to new technologies, ways of working and evolving regulatory expectations

  • Strong collaboration, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively across functions, cultures and levels of seniority.

  • Ability to prioritize effectively, navigate complexity and use digital collaboration tools confidently in a dynamic international environment.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex AML risks and requirements to senior stakeholders and non-specialists.

  • Good command of MS applications (Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook) and sharing platforms (SharePoint, MS 365).

  • Knowledge of AML systems (e.g. transaction monitoring tools, customer risk rating, screening, case management systems).

  • Fluent written and spoken English is essential.
