Settlement Specialist (12-month contract)

Role and responsibilities

Daily monitoring of pending transactions through to final settlement. Analysis and management of complex transactions and exceptional situations. Identification of recurring changes in settlement instructions; request corrections/creation of networks (SSI) to maximize automation. Propose solutions to increase operational efficiency and optimize processes. Coordinate and verify incoming/outgoing payments for exceptions (e.g., netting). Daily collaboration and communication with clients, custodians, and internal teams to resolve settlement issues. Perform daily reconciliation of cash and securities positions, resolve breaks, and ensure proper traceability with consistent commentary. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies regarding Delivery versus Payment (DvP) and Free of Payment (FoP/Lending). Adhere to regulatory requirements and company/group policies. Identify and mitigate operational risks and review procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or equivalent in business administration. Swiss banking apprenticeship (CFC Banque) / Professional Banking Maturity also considered.

  • Strong knowledge of SWIFT ISO 20022 (particularly MT54x messages), regulatory requirements, and custodian platforms.

  • Good knowledge of financial instruments (bonds, equities, etc.).

  • Experience in other back- or middle-office functions is a plus.

  • Strong team spirit and ability to build solid professional relationships.

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage priorities effectively.

  • Ability to challenge existing processes and propose improvements.

  • Fluency in French and English (minimum B2 level); German is an asset.

  • Residence in Switzerland or willingness to relocate.
