Intern Technology Monitoring – Generation IV Reactor Systems

📍 5400 Baden, 5400 Baden

Role and responsibilities

Conduct a structured literature review on Gen IV reactor systems, covering technology concepts, safety approaches, fuel cycles, and international development status. Analyse selected Gen IV technologies and designs in terms of Technology Readiness Level, deploy-ability, safety and licensing feasibility, fuel and waste aspects, and supply chain. Develop a technology and design-based dashboard that enables systematic comparison of Gen IV technologies across key assessment criteria. Document data sources, assumptions, and uncertainties in a transparent and traceable way. Present interim results to the project team and integrate feedback from internal and external experts.

Team / description

You will work closely with experienced experts from nuclear engineering, strategy, and regulatory affairs on a clearly defined assignment with tangible outputs, in a professional and supportive environment at Axpo's headquarters

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ongoing or recently completed studies in nuclear engineering, physics, energy engineering, or a closely related technical field

  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering fundamentals, including reactor physics, thermohydraulics, nuclear materials, fuel cycle, and safety principles

  • Ideally some initial knowledge of Gen IV reactor systems (e.g. sodium-cooled fast reactors, gas-cooled fast reactors, molten salt reactors, lead-cooled reactors, supercritical water reactors) – or a strong interest and willingness to build this up quickly

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to structure complex technical topics and synthesise information from diverse sources

  • A precise, detail-oriented way of working, especially when it comes to documentation, referencing, and data handling

  • Good English skills, written and spoken; German is a plus but not required

  • You enjoy working independently and proactively, while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team.
