(Senior) Research Scientist in Software Systems Engineering

As a research scientist in Software Systems Engineering, you will be working on the future architecture and design of ABB’s software-based products, with a special focus on the digitalization of industrial systems. You will be mainly accountable for: Contribute to and/or lead research projects that turn state-of-the-art research results into effective software solutions for ABB. Create prototypes of innovative concepts with real business impact. Evaluate new technologies and assess their impact on ABB products and roadmaps. Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports. Build a network in the company and actively disseminate your knowledge and expertise.

At the ABB Research Center located in Baden-Dättwil in the proximity of Zurich, we work on cutting-edge technologies that shape the future of our products. The Industrial Software Systems research team explores topics like machine learning, cybersecurity, computer networking, distributed systems, and real-time systems. Our solutions are used to support the development of next-generation digital products and services of ABB.

• PhD in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or in a related field

• Experience in software engineering and system design

• Theoretical and practical knowledge in one or multiple of the following topics: software engineering, distributed systems, computer networking, embedded systems, machine learning, cyber security

• Hands-on experience in programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, Rust)

• Proven publication track record at top scientific conferences and journals

• Excellent communication skills and team player attitude

• Solid experience of getting ideas from concepts to prototypes
