felfel AG

IoT Platform Engineer

📍 8045 Zürich

Rolle und Verantwortlichkeiten

Own the device runtime on our fridges and coffee machine controllers (Gavettis) end to end, managing everything from zero-touch provisioning, device bootstrap, call-home and on-device applications. Drive the consolidation of our fleet management onto a single platform, making the architectural choices and defending them. Reduce the number of programming languages running on the edge, bringing our cloud and device environments closer together. Partner with the Head of Engineering to spec the next generation of fridge and Gavetti hardware, pick vendors, and define the software contracts. Manage and evolve vendor relationships and integrations for our vendors and badge reader suppliers. Act as the ultimate reality check on the engineering team for what is actually running and succeeding in the field.

Qualifikationen und Fähigkeiten

  • 5+ years of experience building production systems, with a proven track record of shipping and operating a real fleet of devices in production (handling real users, outages, and OTA updates).

  • Strong working knowledge of edge platform concerns, including networking (VPNs, NAT, flaky links), Linux and Android on small hardware, OS-level debugging, and observability for offline-tolerant systems.

  • Comfort and proficiency across at least two of the following languages: C#, Go, or Kotlin, with a willingness to standardize.

  • Deep understanding of hardware as an interface, with the ability to navigate Modbus, USB, serial connections, sensor datasheets, and vendor SDKs.

  • Experience with Balena, Azure IoT Hub, KubeEdge, Kubernetes, Docker, or containerized workloads is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with commercial appliance ecosystems (like coffee machines or vending) and enough electronics literacy to read a datasheet and ask the right questions.

  • Pragmatic problem-solving mindset—you would rather standardize than invent, and you choose the boring, reliable tool over the purely interesting one.

  • Fluency in English, German is nice to have

  • Non-smoker - we don't want you to smell like cigarettes, neither at work nor at customer meetings. After all, FELFEL is about good food.

  • Valid work permit or Swiss passport.
