R&D (Senior) Scientist - Power Electronic Converters

The mission of this team is to bring modern and disruptive power electronic solutions from research into product development. We improve our products by holistic optimization, pushing forward novel converter topologies as well as optimizing key components. By joining us, you will participate in idea generation at the frontier of academic research and industrial applications, as well as in the development of advanced technologies for ABB’s products. The main responsibilities include simulating and optimizing power electronic topologies and converters for various applications including conducting broad system level studies. Leading and participating in converter design projects in collaboration with the business while mentoring juniors. Designing, implementing, and testing converter prototypes in the lab. Driving innovation by developing new power electronic concepts and solutions.

At the ABB research center in Baden-Dättwil in the proximity of Zurich, we work on exciting technologies that shape the future of our products. Our international research teams focus on Power Electronics, Energy Storage, Intelligent Systems, and Switching.
Qualifikationen und Fähigkeiten
PhD with emphasis on power electronics converter design, optimization, and prototyping. Additional relevant industrial experience is a plus.
Hands-on laboratory skills, a willingness to work independently and take initiative in designing, building, and testing converter prototypes. A broader set of skills is expected.
Experience with setting-up converter testing by means of circulating power in a back-to-back configuration will be advantageous.
Experience in design, commissioning and testing of medium voltage and 3-phase grid connected inverters/rectifiers will be advantageous.
Experience in applied control theory including hardware implementation of control for power electronic systems can be advantageous.
Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
